First Thursdays — Downtown Hoedown

DFT’s Downtown Hoedown returns this month as an awesome way to kickstart July 4th festivities. With a cold beer (or two) in hand and dressed in denim, participants quickly took to some old-fashioned American line dancing. This month featured a Dolly Parton look alike contest, and the punchy, rhythmic stylings of The Urban Outlaws. As a reminder, Downtown Hoedown is FREE!

Comparing June and July, this month saw way more people dressed up in what ever western wear they could scrounge up from their closet (let’s face it San Francisco, closet is left singular because who here even has plural closets in a typical SF apartment). Also, much to my delight for snapping fun photos, there were way more bubbles this month too! The Urban Outlaws were quick to get the crowd roaring with several line dancing lessons. Once everyone felt comfortable with their newly honed dance moves, or maybe the liquid courage was finally kicking in for some, a full on dance party ensued. Heck, there were even a couple kick lines that materialized.

DFT knows that country music isn’t everyones jam, so they do have a different, free dance party in the SOMA neighborhood each first Thursday of the month. You can head over to Second Street to catch it, or better yet, attend both! August 7th is the next scheduled First Thursdays.
